Starts with God

‘It all starts with God.’ Those are essential words of faith, right? So often we try to focus on who we are and what we can or have done. We live a life that focuses on our own peace of mind, personal fulfillment and even our own happiness. But is that really the purpose we have to be on this planet? How can we remind ourselves today that life is really all about God and not about ourselves?
Consider your purpose. Purpose is so important to life. If we don’t have a purpose, in business, in work, in our family and in life, it is easy to lose our way. It’s easy to race down rabbit holes of worthless endeavors and waste so much time. Once we find a purpose, however, we find a reason to get up in the morning. We have a reason to keep moving forward. We have something to look forward to, especially when life doesn’t go how we’d hoped.
But not just any purpose will do, right? Otherwise we might find out as time goes by that the pursuit that we went after didn’t give us what we ultimately wanted. I think we all know people who have spent time, money and much effort in the pursuit of something only to find out later in life that it didn’t fulfill them as they’d hoped. Maybe that’s you. I know it’s been me at times.
So how do we know what pursuit is best? How do we know what purpose we have in this life? Well, whenever we buy something new that we don’t know how to use we (*should*) look at the instructions, right? The creator or builder of that new item, hopefully, gave us clear instructions for how to use it to its fullest potential. In my life, more than once, I’ve gone back to the instructions for something I’ve owned for a while to find out that I was not using it to the fullest possible potential or simply using it wrong.
And it’s the same in life. God has revealed to us the best way to live in this world and to have purpose while doing it. He does that in the Bible. But, too, we also know that he reveals to us through prayer and through others who have a relationship with him truths that lead us down the best path of life. We read in 1 Corinthians 2.7, “God’s wisdom…goes deep into the interior of his purposes. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us.” (MSG) So, let’s go back to the simple truths that God gave us to live by and hopefully we’ll find his deeper purpose for us. Remember, it all starts with God. God bless.
